1. It's terrible when anyone dies from prostate cancer.

Be diligent, get checked, and get second opinions from specialists.

I work with people who have had prostate cancer in the past and if caught early, it doesn't need to be a death sentence.

I even had a case where I had to argue with client to get second opinion because I thought his general practicioner was wrong. He went for second opinion and caught the prostate cancer at an early stage and is doing fine today.

2. F him!! He had an easy life, and all the money in the world, How about writing a story about some average joe struggling to support his family with out any health ins., Why not honer that wuth a story,.Not some sorry ass republican rich softy!

Do you think that it is bad to be successful? Do you think that you are more deserving because you have not been successful? At least Merv gave us a lot of entertainment and he created a lot of jobs and paid a lot of taxes to pay for medical costs for people who do not carry their own medical insurance! God bless Merv who gave a lot of entertainment and enjoyment to a lot of people for many years. He had a sense of houmor to the end and did not wish others any misfortune. You could try to be the man he was.

6. Someone's level of economic success and fame doesn't make his or her struggle with illness any less less, or more, important. Yes, access to good medical care increases your chances of survival (I did cancer without insurance and barely made it through). But Merv no doubt had the best care that huge amounts of money could buy, and he died anyway. If anything, his death goes to show that cancer knows no social or economic boundaries. It's an equal opportunity killer. We're all in this together. Adding spite to the mix just makes a bad situation worse.

7. What a jerk! Anyone who has prostate cancer, as I have since 1996, knows that it is not an easy life whatever their circumstances otherwise. Being concerned minute by minute of a possible recurrence does not make for a happy quality of life. I wouldn't wish it on anyone, including the jerk.

9. Im so sorry Connie to hear about this, and I wonder if some of the 12 billion a month we spend in Iraq could of been better spent on our citizens, maybe some healthcare? Is it just people like Merv Griffin who gets the best? I remember just 25 years ago how health ins was practically given away to anyone who had a job. Now its for the elite, or those lucky enough to afford it. Who was Merv Griffin anyway? Just a talk show host who somehow got lucky, or stepped on the right toes to get what he had.
I wish that they could of written a story about your brother and his experience instead of someone like Merv Griffin.Your brother was a hero,and you were trully blessed to have had him, and I know that he is missed.

10. Joe, I have to agree with you. My brother had prostate cancer several years ago and lost his insurance due to his company outsourcing to india,,(thanks to our compasionate conservate policies and its free market commitment to Corportations making as much as they can), well, he did get some abrev. treatment, but died leaving his wife to raise his 3 children alone.Shes working 2 jobs still to scrape by, and hasnt any ins. for herself, but the kids have medicare. I often wonder if he had ins., then maybe it would of been discovered early enough, but he couldnt afford a physical. I remember Merv backing Reagan, and later Bush and he did mention that the "free market" and outsourcing was a good thing, and was Americas future.. he should of known, he was after all a Billionare,and a good republican, so we should all give him praise, and Honor for his great achevement..We seem to worship these empty suits nowdays as "Great men", and forget that the real heros of our society are men like my brother, who gave all he had for his family,his friends, his church, his community, and his country,,He served 2 tours of duty in vietnam, and was awarded a purple heart .. I hope Merv is somewhere in hell with his billions, along with nixon and reagan where they belong..Connie
